Enhanced Flooded Batteries (EFB), Flooded is wet “filled with acid and water and this is charged with ready to use.
When explaining a car battery as an ‘EFB’ the internal structure of the regular lead acid battery has been strengthened on.
Most car batteries had been fine with daily use for 4 to 6 years in the past. Nevertheless, many new vehicles use what is known as’ start-stop’ technology to conserve fuel while the vehicle is in traffic standstill. The use of AGM and EFB batteries for these vehicles is important.
Popular car versions using the platform include the start-stop version of Fiat 500, the start-stop variant of Toyota Yaris and the ECOnetic series of Fords.
Any of these cars will stop the engine in traffic so the battery will work harder. The battery does not obtain a charge while the engine is off. When you have the Air Conditioning, Stereo, Navigation system etc going at this stage an ordinary battery will get overworked / drained too quickly. The added punishment can be done by AGM and EFB systems because regular car batteries cannot go below a certain amount of charge and immediately bounce back.
EFB car battery upgrades require the use of a special poly-fleece content, which lines each of the vertical lead plates within the battery.
If battery acid touches each lead plate a chemical reaction generates electricity. The alternative is that using the lead plate degrades slightly when losing or gaining electrons and is’sulphated’/encrusted. The battery is less effective over time and wears out efficiently.
The poly-fleece lining lets the lead substance extend its existence while bringing newly transferred electrons closer to each lead pipe. It makes for a more reliable power flow out of the battery which is required when the engine turns off at traffic to keep the batteries alive.
In comparison-The lead plates are also mechanically thicker in both EFB and AGM batteries. Thicker plates allow the battery to be discharged much deeper than a regular car battery and behave more like’ recreational batteries’ as in the ones found on motor homes, boats etc.
